Stand Up Science: Apocalypse Edition
How can we survive the apocalypse? With brains and a good sense of humor!

Join Shane Mauss and Athena Aktipis for a night of apocalyptic hilarity as they chat about the challenges facing humanity and how we can use comedy, adaptability, and a sense of adventure to deal – and do something to prevent utter disaster! Shane and Athena will talk about the funny side of Athena’s new book “A Field Guide to the Apocalypse: A Mostly Serious Guide to Surviving Our Wild Times,” a common sense field guide to understanding, surviving, and thriving in our time of complex chaos and crises. Come in your favorite apocalypse casual outfit and leave with survival tips to help you through whatever challenge is in your future, whether it’s extreme heat in the valley or a music festival mud pit.

ABOUT ATHENA AKTIPIS
Athena Aktipis is an Associate Professor in the Department of Psychology at Arizona State University, Director of The Cooperation Lab and co-Director of The Cooperation Science Network and The Human Generosity Project. She studies cooperation across systems from human sharing to cancer. She is also the founder of Zombified Media and the host of the podcast, Zombified. She is passionate about building interdisciplinary teams to tackle tough questions, empowering students to learn about the topics they are most curious about, and leveraging cooperation theory to improve our universities and the broader communities in which we are all embedded.

Athena is currently on tour for her second book, A Field Guide to the Apocalypse: A mostly serious guide to surviving our wild times. The tour, called The Apocalypse Roadshow, is about how we need cooperation, curiosity and a sense of adventure to prepare for the challenges we are facing in our uncertain times. I am also traveling to speak about my first book, The Cheating Cell: How evolution helps us understand and treat cancer.
